Daily Conversation Examples

Use fractions with kudasai (requests), gurai (about), wa (topic).

  • これを　はんぶん　ください。Kore o hambun kudasai. (“n” becomes "m" in front of P, B, M.) = Lit. Please give me half of this.
  • これを　1/3だけ　ください。Kore o sambun no ichi dake kudasai. = Lit. Please give me only one third of this.
  • 1にちの　1/3は　ねています。Ichi-ichi no sambun no ichi wa neteimasu. = Lit. (I am) sleeping on third of a day.
  • わたしは　１ねんの　1/3は　しゅっちょうです。Watashi wa ichi-nen no sambun no ichi wa shucchou desu. = Lit. As for me, one third of year is business trip.
  • グラスに　ミルクを　2/3ぐらい　いれてください。Gurasu ni miruku o sambun no ni gurai iretekudasai. = Lit. Please put milk into the glass about two third.
  • しゅくだいは　まだ　1/3ぐらい　あります。Shukudai wa mada sambun no ichi gurai arimasu. = Lit. As for homework, there are still one third.
  • ガソリンは　まだ　はんぶんぐらい　あります。Gasorin wa mada hambun gurai arimasu. = Lit. As for gasoline, there is still about half.
  • わたしの　かいしゃの　 ひとは　3/5ぐらい　にほんじんです。Watashi no kaishano hito wa sambun no go gurai Nihon-jin desu. = Lit. Person of my company are three fifth Japanese person.
  • クラスの　なかの　1/4の　ひとは　にほんに　いったことがあります。Kurasu no naka no yombun no ichi no hito wa Nihon ni itta koto ga arimasu. = Lit. One fourth of people in class have been to Japan.
